1. Volkswagen Golf
Top of our auction this year was the much-loved Volkswagen Golf. Now in its eighth generation, the Golf has been a favourite family hatchback for over 50 years. It’s also available with petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric engines, plus the spicy hot hatch variants, the Golf R and Golf GTI. Our data includes all of these different variations, contributing to its number one spot in our most-sold list this year. Whatever variation you have on your driveway, get an up-to-date valuation for your Golf here.
2. MINI Cooper
Another family classic, the MINI brand comes in multiple styles and sizes, including the large five-seat Countryman (our 265th most sold car) and the sporty John Cooper Works hot hatch – just one entered our auction this year. But the standard MINI Cooper is our second most sold model of 2025, known for its bright colours, stylish interior and compact size, great for town and city driving. All this contributes to strong resale values, so if you’re ready to sell your MINI, you can count on a competitive price.
3. Ford Fiesta
The Ford Fiesta ceased production back in 2023, but remains one of our most popular models hitting our daily auction, taking our third-place spot. The Fiesta has long been an affordable and comfortable car to drive, keeping it popular on the used car market. It was the lowest priced car in our top 10, but that includes all ages of Fiesta made over its 27-year history, meaning there’s still an appetite for all kinds of models. Get your free, instant valuation of your Fiesta here, regardless of age or mileage.

4. Land Rover Range Rover
The super-stylish Range Rover family of cars – including the Evoque, Sport and Velar –made an appearance in our top 10 list this year. This may be influenced by the growing trend to downsize car type or move towards more economical models, as it’s no surprise these tech-filled SUVs have sky-high running costs. However, they also have strong resale values, especially models that are still compliant for London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone or other Clean Air Zones. You could be in the money if you choose to sell in 2026.
5. Ford Focus
This year, we bid a fond farewell to the Ford Focus, with the final model rolling off the production line in November. This could have a positive impact on resale values next year, as wannabe owners will now have to buy second-hand. That said, it’s already a popular model, being our 5th best selling car on our platform. See how much yours is worth with a free, instant valuation.
6. Mercedes A-Class
The small and stylish Mercedes A-Class is a favourite on social media, but also in our auctions. It’s a more upmarket alternative to the Volkswagen Golf – our most popular sold car this year – so has strong resale values and popularity on the used car market. Some sellers may have been looking to upsize – the bigger Mercedes C-Class was our 13th most sold car, too.
7. Volkswagen Polo
The smaller sibling of our top-sold model, the Volkswagen Polo is another much-loved family car making an appearance in our top 10 list. The Polo has been around for 50 years, making it a firm favourite on British roads. It’s now only available with a petrol engine, which could contribute to its resale stats as many drivers look to adopt electric driving. If this sounds familiar, get your free valuation today.

8. BMW 3 Series
The stylish BMW 3 Series is our eighth most-sold car this year. This includes sales of the petrol and hybrid models, as well as older diesel models that are now discontinued. The super-sporty BMW M3 was just inside our top 100 best sold cars, too, in 96th place. This executive car is popular with business users, thanks to the tax-efficient plug-in hybrid model sitting in the range.
9. Nissan Qashqai
One of the original family SUVs, the Nissan Qashqai has long been a favourite for those wanting space, comfort and a solid driving experience. Since pretty much starting the crossover craze back in 2008, the Qashqai is now in its third generation, and our sales have seen petrol, diesel and hybrid models hit our auction in 2025.
10. Vauxhall Corsa
The Vauxhall Corsa closes up our top 10 list of most-sold cars this year, as yet another popular small hatchback. It’s been around since 1993, and despite having a bit of a dated appearance inside and out, modern generations have lots of tech and are good to drive. Regardless of how old your model is, you can sell it in our auction – get your free valuation here.

While this top 10 gives an overview of the most popular models sold on our platform, Motorway can help you get a great price when you sell, regardless of your car’s age, condition or popularity. FAQs
How long does it take to sell with Motorway?
From getting your free, instant valuation to approving an offer generally takes around two to seven days, although it can be completed in as little as 24 hours. This depends on how long it takes you to profile your car, which includes taking photos and gathering documentation such as your MOT certificate (with at least two weeks remaining in its validity) and the V5C logbook.
You can agree to the timings of collection and payment with your buying dealer once the sale has been completed. Collection generally happens within a week to ten days of the sale being agreed. Payment will be made straight into your bank account upon collection of the vehicle.
How much does mileage really affect my car’s value?
Vehicles that have lower mileage are typically more valuable because it’s the best indication of how much the car has been used, and therefore, the likely condition of the engine, interior, and exterior of the vehicle.
The average UK car driver drives between 8,000 to 15,000 miles per year for commuting and leisure purposes combined.
Does the colour of my car impact the final offer?
Colour can play a small part in the valuation of your vehicle as some colours are more desirable than others. This may be reflected in the number of offers you receive for your vehicle.
Neutral or standard colours such as blue, grey, or black are popular in the used car market – pink or orange vehicles are not so in-demand.
Can I sell my car if it has outstanding finance (PCP or HP)?
In most cases, with Motorway, you can still sell your car even if there is an outstanding finance plan – then use the money to pay off the finance. That usually means no more payments, and you get to keep the difference after the finance deal has been settled.
Start by contacting your finance company to advise them that you’re considering selling your car, and ask them to provide a settlement letter. This will show how much finance is left on your car. Once you’ve got your settlement letter, you can prepare your car for sale. Start by gathering all the documents you need, including the V5C logbook for your proof of ownership, the service history, and MOT certificates if the car is older than three years.
Once you’ve sold your car with Motorway, your winning dealer will clear the existing finance directly with your lender. Any surplus goes straight into your bank account. All that’s left to do is organise a collection at a time and place that suits you. For more information, read our full guide here.
