Motorway sellers get £1,600 more than part exchange on average*

Getting the best price for your car hasn’t always been easy. Motorway is here to change that.

We put your car in front of 8,000+ verified dealers competing in a daily auction, and we’ll find the one dealer in the country that most wants your car. Even after a small fee when your car sells, you still come out ahead.

Source: Based on a customer survey of 589 sellers, April 2026. See full methodology.

Why Motorway sellers get higher offers

Your car is shown to 8,000+ verified dealers across the UK – that’s more than two-thirds of professional UK dealers. They compete for your car in a daily auction, where dealers place their best offers.

    Part exchange is different:

    • One dealer usually makes the offer
    • Dealers need margin to resell your car
    • There are no competing bids

The same logic applies to direct-buyer services like WeBuyAnyCar, where a single company makes a single offer with no competition.

More competition usually leads to stronger offers – which is why dealer auction models, like Motorway, can help sellers get more for their car.

One happy seller shared her experience: “The price I got was much better than quoted from any of the competitor sites.”Elita, May 2026 (Trustpilot review)

How we calculate the £1,600 figure

The £1,600 figure comes from a customer survey run in April 2026.
    589 Motorway sellers told us:

    • What their car sold for on Motorway
    • What they were offered for part exchange on the same car

We compared those sale prices and part exchange quotes to calculate the average difference.

    How we ran the survey

    • We contacted 30,367 sellers in April 2026 who sold through Motorway within the previous 96 days
    • 2,220 sellers completed the survey
    • Of those, 589 sellers had also received a part-exchange valuation for the same car and were included in this calculation
    • Part-exchange offers were self-reported by sellers
    • Sellers without a part-exchange offer weren’t included in this calculation

    How Motorway fees work

When you sell your car on Motorway, you pay a small service fee, typically 0.3-0.5% of your car’s value. This fee covers a fully managed selling service from listing your car to sorting paperwork, collection and payment.

    No sale, no fee.
    There’s:

    • No listing fee
    • No upfront costs
    • No fee on cars sold under £1,000

Your fee is only deducted after you accept an offer and your car is collected.

If your car doesn’t sell, you don’t pay a service fee. So our focus is simple: helping you sell for a price you’re happy with.

The maths on a real car

A £15,000 car could mean around £1,520 more in your pocket after fees

    • Part-exchange offer: £13,400
    • Motorway sale price: £15,000
    • Extra made: £1,600
    • Motorway fee: £79.99
    • You keep around £1,520

The service fee is approx 0.5% of the car’s overall price.

    Selling a £5k car?

    • Your fee would be £49.99
    • Motorway sellers get £1,600 more than part exchange on average, so many sellers still keep significantly more than the fee.

How Motorway compares to market valuations

84% of Motorway sellers sold for more than the market average, based on two independent market pricing guides between January 2020 and November 2025.

That means Motorway doesn’t just outperform part exchange – it often beats broader market valuations too.

In February 2025, independent automotive marketplace research firm AIM Group highlighted Motorway’s dealer competition model, AI-powered vehicle profiling and integrated selling experience as key strengths in the UK car-selling market. Read the AIM Group analysis

    FAQs

Is Motorway worth it after the fee?

Motorway sellers got £1,600 more than part exchange on average before fees. Fees range from £29.99–£99.99, so sellers typically keep most of that extra value.

Why does Motorway charge a fee?

The fee covers a fully managed selling service designed to help you get the best price for your car. We list your car to 8,000+ verified dealers, handle the paperwork and support you through collection and payment. You only pay when your car sells.

What happens if I reject an offer?

Nothing. You’re under no obligation to sell and you won’t pay a fee.

Why are part-exchange offers often lower?

Part exchange often means less competition because you’re usually selling directly to one dealership. Motorway puts your car in front of over 8,000 verified dealers competing in our auction.

Will listing my car on multiple platforms at the same time get me a better price?

Generally, no. Listing your car on multiple platforms can lead to lower offers. When dealers spot the same car listed on multiple platforms at the same time, they discount their bids to account for the risk that the sale won’t complete with them. Single-platform listings typically achieve better prices. Learn more about how dealer auctions work
